On May 26, 2015, the Township of Ocean suffered a great loss.  Detective Sergeant John P. Green, a decorated, 17-year veteran of the Ocean Township Police Department, passed away after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.

John was a certified 9-1-1 Telecommunications Instructor, EMT, Firefighter, and Police Explorer Advisor to Post 281. His devotion to serving his community extended to the Township Fire Departments where he served as a lifelong Volunteer Firefighter.  He began in the Oakhurst Fire Department and transferred to the Wanamassa Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to serve as Chief of the Department in 2006.  Not only did John have an unrivaled commitment to his community, but he was dedicated to his family and friends and would go out of his way to help anyone in need.

242Forever is a non-profit organization founded to honor the memory of Detective Sergeant John P. Green
